Garlic Naan

20150331_110330~2This delicious naan recipe is amazingly simple. The garlic is a must as the combination of garlic, naan bread and butter is to die for.


1 Tablespoon active dry yeast

1 cup warm water

1/2 cup sugar

2 Tablespoons milk

1 egg, beaten

2 teaspoons salt

4 1/2 cups strong flour

2 teaspoons minced garlic

1/4 butter, melted


In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand for 10 minutes, until frothy. Stir in sugar, milk, egg, salt, garlic and enough flour to make a soft dough. Knead dough for 10 minutes on a lightly floured surface, or until smooth. Place dough in a well oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and set aside to rise. Leave to rise for an hour or until dough has doubled in volume.

Punch down dough and pinch off small handfuls of the dough (about the size of a golf ball). Roll into balls and place on a tray. Cover with a towel, and allow to rise until doubled in size (about 30 minutes).

Heat up a large frying pan. Roll out a ball of dough into a thin circle. lightly oil frying pan. place dough in the frying pan and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until puffy and lightly browned. Brush uncooked side with butter, and turn over. Brush cooked side with butter, and cook until browned, another 2-4 minutes. Remove from frying pan. Repeat process with all dough balls until all the naan has been prepared.
